Ernie K-Doe, born as Ernest Kador Jr., was an American rhythm and blues singer from New Orleans. He is best known for his 1961 hit song "Mother-in-Law," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was his biggest commercial success and is considered a classic in the R&B genre. K-Doe was known for his flamboyant personality and energetic performances, often wearing colorful suits and elaborate hats on stage.


In addition to his music career, K-Doe also owned and operated a music venue in New Orleans called Ernie K-Doe's Mother-in-Law Lounge. The lounge became a popular spot for live music and a hub for the local music community. Ernie K-Doe was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2009, recognizing his contribution to the music scene in New Orleans and his enduring impact on the R&B genre.
