Etta James, born Jamesetta Hawkins on January 25, 1938, in Los Angeles, California, was an American singer known for her powerful voice and versatility in various music genres, including blues, R&B, soul, and jazz. She began her career in the 1950s and gained recognition for hits like "At Last," "Tell Mama," and "I'd Rather Go Blind."


James was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and received six Grammy Awards throughout her career. She struggled with personal challenges, including drug addiction and health issues, but continued to perform and record music until her death on January 20, 2012, in Riverside, California. Etta James left behind a lasting legacy as a legendary vocalist and one of the most influential artists in the history of American music.
