The group consisted of Alohe Jean, Clarence Jr., James, Dennis, and Kenneth Burke, along with their cousin, Cubie. They are best known for their hit single "O-o-h Child," which was released in 1970 and became a classic soul anthem. The song reached number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and remains one of their most popular tracks.

Five Stairsteps & Cubie were signed to the Buddah Records label and released several albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
