Fontella Bass was an American R&B and soul singer known for her powerful voice and hits such as "Rescue Me." She was born on July 3, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in a musical family. Fontella began her music career as a pianist and singer in her father's gospel choir before moving on to perform with renowned artists like Little Milton and Bobby McClure.


In 1965, Fontella Bass released her most successful single, "Rescue Me," which reached the top of the R&B charts and the top 5 on the pop charts. She continued to record music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, collaborating with artists like the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Fontella Bass passed away on December 26, 2012, leaving behind a legacy as a talented and influential soul singer in the music industry.
