The band's original lineup consisted of Lou Gramm on vocals, Mick Jones on guitar, Ian McDonald on guitar and keyboards, Al Greenwood on keyboards, Ed Gagliardi on bass, and Dennis Elliott on drums. Foreigner is known for their hit songs such as "I Want to Know What Love Is," "Cold as Ice," "Urgent," and "Hot Blooded."

The band achieved great commercial success in the late 1970s and 1980s, with their self-titled debut album reaching the top 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.
