The Four Tops are an American vocal quartet that was formed in 1953 in Detroit, Michigan. The group's original lineup consisted of Levi Stubbs, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson, and Lawrence Payton. They were one of the most successful groups of the Motown era, known for their smooth harmonies and soulful sound. The Four Tops achieved their first hit in 1964 with the song "Baby I Need Your Loving," and went on to have a string of hits throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
One of their most famous songs, "Reach Out I'll Be There," reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966. The Four Tops were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and have continued to perform and tour, with Duke Fakir being the only surviving original member. Their music has had a lasting impact on the R&B and soul genres, and they are considered one of the greatest vocal groups of all time.
