The Four Tops are an American vocal quartet that formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1953. The group's original lineup consisted of lead singer Levi Stubbs, Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson, and Lawrence Payton. The Four Tops were one of the most successful vocal groups of the 1960s and 1970s, known for their smooth harmonies and soulful sound. They signed with Motown Records in 1963 and released a string of hits, including "Baby I Need Your Loving," "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)," and "Reach Out I'll Be There."
The Four Tops continued to record and perform throughout the decades, earning induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. Despite lineup changes due to the passing of some original members, the group remains active, with Duke Fakir as the only surviving original member. Their music has left a lasting impact on the Motown sound and they are considered one of the greatest vocal groups in music history.
