Franz Ferdinand is a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 2002. The band consists of members Alex Kapranos, Bob Hardy, Paul Thomson, and Julian Corrie. They took their name from the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose assassination sparked World War I. Franz Ferdinand is known for their energetic live performances and their unique blend of indie rock, post-punk, and dance-punk influences. They achieved commercial success with their self-titled debut album released in 2004, which included hit singles such as "Take Me Out" and "The Dark of the Matinée".
