Fred Darian was an American songwriter and music producer. He was born on August 15, 1928, in Boston, Massachusetts, and passed away on December 29, 2003, in Los Angeles, California. Darian is best known for co-writing the hit song "Leader of the Pack" with Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich, which was recorded by The Shangri-Las and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1964.


In addition to his work on "Leader of the Pack," Darian also co-wrote songs such as "The Rain, The Park, and Other Things" for The Cowsills and "The Love of My Man" for Theola Kilgore. Darian had a successful career in the music industry, collaborating with various artists and producing several popular songs throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
