Freda Payne is an American singer and actress who was born on September 19, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan. She is best known for her 1970 hit song "Band of Gold," which reached the top of the charts in the United Kingdom and the United States. Payne began her career singing in jazz clubs in Detroit before signing with the jazz label Impulse! in the 1960s.
In addition to her successful music career, Freda Payne has also appeared in a number of films and television shows. She made her acting debut in the film "Private Navy of Sgt. O'Farrell" in 1968 and went on to appear in movies such as "Book of Numbers" and "The Nutty Professor." Payne has also made guest appearances on television shows like "The Love Boat" and "The Bold and the Beautiful."
