He began his music career in the 1950s as a songwriter, penning hits for artists like The Shirelles and Chubby Checker. In 1963, Scott released his first solo album titled "Same Old Beat," which included his most well-known song, "Hey, Girl." The song became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Scott continued to release music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with some of his other popular songs including "Are You Lonely For Me" and "Cry To Me."


Despite not achieving mainstream success on the same level as some of his peers, Freddie Scott is remembered for his soulful voice and poignant lyrics. He is considered a notable figure in the soul music genre and has influenced many artists with his emotive singing style.
