Freddy Fender, born Baldemar Huerta in 1937, was an American Tejano, country, and rock and roll musician. He is best known for his hit songs "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" and "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights." Fender achieved success in the 1970s with his unique blend of Tex-Mex music, incorporating elements of rock and country. He was one of the first Hispanic singers to cross over into the mainstream American music scene.
Fender's career was marked by both critical acclaim and personal struggles, including battles with drug addiction. Despite these challenges, he continued to perform and record music throughout his life. He was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 1990. Freddy Fender passed away in 2006, leaving behind a lasting legacy as a pioneering figure in the world of Tex-Mex music.
