Garfunkel is an American singer, songwriter, and actor best known for his partnership with Paul Simon in the folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. Born as Arthur Ira Garfunkel on November 5, 1941, in Queens, New York, he met Paul Simon in high school, and they began performing together as Tom & Jerry before achieving worldwide fame as Simon & Garfunkel in the 1960s.
Garfunkel's distinctive countertenor voice and harmonies were a defining element of the duo's sound, contributing to their success with hits like "The Sound of Silence," "Bridge Over Troubled Water," and "Mrs. Robinson." In addition to his work with Simon & Garfunkel, Garfunkel has released several solo albums, acted in films, and published poetry. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Simon & Garfunkel in 1990.
