Gary Portnoy is an American singer and songwriter best known for co-writing and performing the theme song for the popular television show "Cheers." The theme song, titled "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," became a hit and is one of the most recognized TV theme songs of all time. Portnoy also wrote and performed music for other television shows, such as "Punky Brewster" and "Mr. Belvedere."
