Gary U.S. Bonds, born Gary Anderson in 1939, is an American rhythm and blues and rock and roll singer. He is best known for his hits in the early 1960s, including "New Orleans" and "Quarter to Three." Bonds' music was influenced by the sound of New Orleans rhythm and blues, and he was one of the few African-American artists to achieve mainstream success during the early years of rock and roll.
Bonds had a career resurgence in the 1980s when he collaborated with Bruce Springsteen, who was a fan of Bonds' music. Their collaboration resulted in the hit album "Dedication" in 1981, which included the single "This Little Girl." Bonds continues to perform and record music, and he was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
