Gene Chandler, born Eugene Dixon in 1937, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his 1962 hit song "Duke of Earl," which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Chandler's smooth voice and charismatic stage presence helped him become a prominent figure in the Chicago soul music scene of the 1960s. He continued to have success with other songs like "Groovy Situation" and "Rainbow '65." Chandler was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2014 in recognition of his contributions to the genre.
In addition to his successful music career, Gene Chandler also had a brief stint as a record producer, working with artists like Curtis Mayfield and The Dells.
