Gene Chandler, born Eugene Dixon on July 6, 1937, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer who is best known for his success in the 1960s as a soul and R&B artist. He began his musical career in the early 1960s as a member of the band The Dukays before launching a successful solo career.


Chandler's biggest hit came in 1962 with the song "Duke of Earl," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and solidified his status as a prominent figure in the music industry. Throughout his career, he continued to release successful singles such as "Groovy Situation" and "Get Down." In addition to his solo work, Chandler also worked as a producer for other artists and remained active in the music industry for several decades.
