Born on February 17, 1940, in Hartford, Connecticut, Pitney had a successful career as a solo artist, known for his powerful and emotive vocals. He was also a talented songwriter, penning hits for other artists such as "He's a Rebel" for The Crystals. Pitney's own hits include songs like "Town Without Pity," "Only Love Can Break a Heart," and "Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa."


Throughout his career, Gene Pitney had over 20 Top 40 hits in the United States and was known for his versatile musical style that ranged from rock and roll to pop ballads. He continued to perform and tour until his untimely death on April 5, 2006, while on tour in Wales, at the age of 66. His music and legacy continue to be celebrated by fans of his timeless songs.
