Gene Pitney was an American singer-songwriter who was born on February 17, 1940, in Hartford, Connecticut, and passed away on April 5, 2006. He was known for his distinctive high-pitched voice and emotional ballads. Pitney had a successful career in the 1960s, recording hits such as "Town Without Pity," "Only Love Can Break a Heart," and "Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa."


In addition to his solo career, Gene Pitney also wrote songs for other artists, including the Crystals' hit "He's a Rebel." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Pitney continued to perform and record music throughout his career, and his songs have been covered by numerous artists.
