Gene Pitney was an American singer-songwriter born on February 17, 1940, in Hartford, Connecticut, and passed away on April 5, 2006. He was known for his distinctive high-pitched voice and powerful ballads. Pitney achieved success in the 1960s with hits such as "Town Without Pity," "Only Love Can Break a Heart," and "Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa." He also wrote songs for other artists, including "He's a Rebel" for The Crystals.
Pitney was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and received a Grammy Award for Best Male Solo Vocal Performance in 1989 for his song "24 Hours from Tulsa." Throughout his career, he released over 20 albums and had numerous chart-topping singles. Pitney's music continues to be celebrated for its emotional depth and timeless appeal.
