Gene Pitney was an American singer-songwriter who was born on February 17, 1940, in Hartford, Connecticut, and passed away on April 5, 2006, in Cardiff, Wales. He was known for his distinctive high-pitched voice and emotional ballads. Pitney achieved success as a solo artist in the 1960s with hits such as "Town Without Pity," "Only Love Can Break a Heart," and "Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa."


In addition to his solo career, Gene Pitney also collaborated with other artists, including writing songs for other musicians such as Ricky Nelson and The Crystals.
