General Public was a British band formed in 1984 by former members of the ska band The Beat (known as The English Beat in the United States). The band's lineup included Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger from The Beat, along with other musicians. General Public's music was a mix of new wave, ska, and pop, with a distinctive sound that incorporated elements of reggae and punk.
The band achieved commercial success with their debut album "All the Rage" in 1984, which included the hit singles "Tenderness" and "Never You Done That." General Public released a total of two albums before disbanding in 1986. Despite their relatively short-lived career, the band's music continues to be well-regarded by fans of 1980s alternative and new wave music.
