Genesis is a British progressive rock band formed in 1967. The founding members were Tony Banks (keyboards), Mike Rutherford (bass guitar and guitar), Peter Gabriel (lead vocals), Anthony Phillips (guitar), and Chris Stewart (drums). Over the years, the band's lineup changed, with Phil Collins taking over as lead vocalist after Gabriel's departure in 1975. Steve Hackett also joined as the guitarist in 1971.
Genesis is known for their elaborate and theatrical live performances, as well as their complex and innovative music that blends rock with elements of classical, jazz, and folk. Some of their most popular albums include "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway," "Selling England by the Pound," and "Invisible Touch." The band has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
