George Burns (1896-1996) was an American comedian, actor, and singer who had a career spanning over 90 years. He was born Nathan Birnbaum in New York City and began his entertainment career in vaudeville before transitioning to radio, television, and film. Burns is best known for his comedy act with his wife Gracie Allen, with whom he starred in the popular television show "The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show" from 1950 to 1958.

After Allen's retirement in 1958, Burns continued to have a successful solo career in entertainment. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film "The Sunshine Boys" in 1975, at the age of 80, making him the oldest winner in a competitive category. Burns was known for his distinctive voice, cigar-smoking persona, and sharp wit. He remained active in show business until his death at the age of 100 in 1996.
