"Midnight Train to Georgia" by Gladys Knight & The Pips was released as a single in August 1973. The song was written by Jim Weatherly and originally titled "Midnight Plane to Houston," but was later changed to "Midnight Train to Georgia" at the suggestion of producer and musician, Sonny Limbo. The track went on to become a massive hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and winning a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.

Gladys Knight & The Pips were an American R&B/soul group formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1952. The group consisted of lead singer Gladys Knight and her backing vocalists, The Pips, which included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and cousins William Guest and Edward Patten. Known for their smooth harmonies and dynamic stage presence, the group achieved commercial success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits like "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)." Gladys Knight, often referred to as the "Empress of Soul," has had a successful career as a solo artist as well, earning multiple Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
