Gladys Knight and the Pips were an American R&B/soul group that formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1952. The group consisted of lead vocalist Gladys Knight and her backup singers/bandmates, known as the Pips - which included her brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and cousins William Guest and Edward Patten. They achieved commercial success in the 1960s and 1970s with hits such as "Midnight Train to Georgia," "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)," and "If I Were Your Woman."
Gladys Knight and the Pips were known for their smooth harmonies, soulful sound, and dynamic stage presence. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001. The group disbanded in 1989 after decades of successful music-making, with Gladys Knight continuing her solo career while the Pips pursued other interests.
