The band consists of vocalist and guitarist John Rzeznik, bassist and vocalist Robby Takac, and drummer George Tutuska (although he was later replaced by Mike Malinin). The band's sound has evolved over the years, starting with a punk rock and heavy metal influence in their early days, then transitioning to a more mainstream rock sound in the 1990s.

The Goo Goo Dolls gained mainstream success with their 1998 album "Dizzy Up the Girl," which featured the hit singles "Iris" and "Slide." "Iris" in particular became one of the band's most popular songs and was featured on the soundtrack of the film "City of Angels." The Goo Goo Dolls have continued to release music and tour extensively, maintaining a dedicated fan base around the world.
