The Goo Goo Dolls are an American rock band formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York. The band consists of founder members vocalist/guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist/vocalist Robby Takac, as well as drummer Craig Macintyre. The band's name was inspired by a True Detective ad in a magazine. The band initially started as a punk rock group, but later transitioned to a more mainstream rock sound that gained them commercial success.
The Goo Goo Dolls are best known for their hits such as "Iris", "Slide", and "Black Balloon". Their 1998 single "Iris" brought them international fame and was featured on the soundtrack of the film "City of Angels". The band has released multiple albums, with several achieving platinum status. They have also received multiple Grammy Award nominations and have maintained a dedicated fan base throughout their career.
