Grand Puba, born Maxwell Dixon on March 4, 1966, is an American rapper and emcee from New Rochelle, New York. He first rose to prominence as a member of the influential hip-hop group Brand Nubian in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Grand Puba is known for his smooth flow, clever wordplay, and socially conscious lyrics that often touch on themes of love, unity, and black empowerment.


After leaving Brand Nubian, Grand Puba embarked on a successful solo career, releasing several solo albums including "Reel to Reel" in 1992 and "2000" in 1995. He is also known for his collaborations with other hip-hop artists such as Mary J. Blige, KRS-One, and Pete Rock. Grand Puba's contributions to the hip-hop genre have solidified his status as a respected and influential figure within the music industry.
