Grandmaster Flash, born Joseph Saddler in Barbados in 1958, is a pioneering DJ, rapper, and producer in the hip-hop genre. He is best known for his work with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, a group he formed in the 1970s. They were one of the early hip-hop acts to achieve mainstream success and are credited with helping to popularize the genre.


Grandmaster Flash is often credited with inventing the technique of "cutting" and "back-spinning" which are essential components of modern DJing. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007, recognizing his significant contributions to the development of hip-hop music. Grandmaster Flash's innovative turntable skills and production techniques have had a lasting impact on the hip-hop genre and have influenced generations of artists to come.
