Richard Arnold "Groove" Holmes was an American jazz organist born on May 2, 1931, in Camden, New Jersey. He is best known for his soulful and bluesy style of playing the Hammond B-3 organ. Holmes gained prominence in the 1960s with his popular recordings on the Prestige label, including the hit album "Groove" in 1961, which helped establish him as a leader in the soul jazz genre. His music often featured a driving groove, infectious rhythms, and inventive improvisation that captivated audiences and fellow musicians alike.


Throughout his career, Groove Holmes collaborated with notable jazz artists such as Gene Ammons, Jimmy Smith, and Houston Person.
