Richard Arnold "Groove" Holmes was an American jazz organist born on May 2, 1931, in Camden, New Jersey. He was known for his soulful and bluesy style of playing the Hammond B-3 organ. Holmes gained recognition in the 1960s as part of the soul jazz movement, which blended elements of jazz, blues, and R&B. He recorded numerous albums as a bandleader and collaborated with other prominent jazz musicians, including Gene Ammons, Houston Person, and Jimmy McGriff.


Holmes' most famous album, "Misty," released in 1965, was a commercial success and helped solidify his reputation as a leading figure in the jazz organ world. He continued to perform and record throughout the 1970s and 1980s, maintaining a loyal fan base. Groove Holmes passed away on June 29, 1991, leaving behind a legacy of influential recordings that continue to be celebrated by jazz enthusiasts worldwide.
