Guy Drake was a country music singer and songwriter who was active in the 1960s and 1970s. He was born on December 10, 1939, in Nashville, Tennessee, and began his music career in the early 1960s. Drake is best known for his hit song "Welfare Cadillac," which was released in 1971 and reached the top 10 on the country charts. The song was a controversial commentary on social welfare programs and became his signature tune.


In addition to "Welfare Cadillac," Guy Drake released several other singles throughout his career, including "The March Up Calvary's Hill" and "Tennessee Convict." Despite his talent and success in the country music scene, Drake did not achieve widespread fame and eventually faded into obscurity. He passed away on August 19, 2003, leaving behind a legacy of thought-provoking and socially conscious country music.
