Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were an American R&B/Soul group formed in Philadelphia in the late 1950s. The group originally consisted of lead singer Harold Melvin, and backing vocalists Bernard Wilson, Lawrence Brown, and Teddy Pendergrass. They experienced commercial success in the 1970s with hits like "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and "The Love I Lost." The group's classic lineup featured Teddy Pendergrass as the lead vocalist, who went on to have a successful solo career after leaving the group in 1976. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were known for their smooth harmonies and emotionally charged performances, earning them a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim.


Despite lineup changes over the years, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes continued to release music and tour throughout the 1980s and 1990s. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. The group's legacy endures through their timeless music and influence on the R&B genre.
