Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were an American R&B/Soul group formed in Philadelphia in the 1950s. The group was originally known as The Charlemagnes, but later changed their name to Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes in the mid-1960s. The lineup of the group included Harold Melvin as the founder and lead vocalist, along with various members such as Teddy Pendergrass, Lawrence Brown, and Bernard Wilson.
The group gained mainstream success in the 1970s with hits like "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "The Love I Lost." They were known for their smooth harmonies and powerful vocals, with Teddy Pendergrass becoming a standout member as the lead singer on many of their most popular songs. Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were influential in the development of Philadelphia soul and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.
