She made her Broadway debut in the role of Nala in Disney's "The Lion King" in 1997. Headley gained further recognition for her role as the original Nala in the stage adaptation of the film. She won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Aida in the musical "Aida" in 2000. In addition to her success in theater, Headley has released several R&B and gospel albums, including her debut album "This Is Who I Am" in 2002.
