Henson Cargill was an American country music singer born on February 5, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He rose to fame in the late 1960s with his hit song "Skip a Rope," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1968. The song's socially conscious lyrics criticizing societal issues such as materialism and neglecting children struck a chord with audiences and made Cargill a prominent figure in the country music scene.


Throughout his career, Cargill recorded several albums and had a string of successful singles on the country music charts. Some of his other notable songs include "None of My Business" and "Row Row Row."
