"Alley-Oop" is a novelty song recorded by the American band Hollywood Argyles. The single was originally released in 1960 by Lute Records, and it quickly became a hit, reaching the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the same year. The song was written by Dallas Frazier and was inspired by the cartoon character Alley Oop, a caveman created by V.T. Hamlin.

Artist Bio:
The Hollywood Argyles were a short-lived musical group formed by the producer Kim Fowley. Their most famous single, "Alley-Oop," featured the vocals of Gary Paxton and was released in 1960. The band was mainly a studio creation, and after the success of "Alley-Oop," they disbanded. Gary Paxton went on to have a successful career as a producer, working with artists like The Kingsmen and Paul Revere & The Raiders. The Hollywood Argyles may have been a brief musical project, but their hit single continues to be a nostalgic favorite for many fans of 1960s music.
