Ian Matthews is a British singer-songwriter and musician who was born on June 16, 1946. He first gained fame as a member of the band Fairport Convention in the late 1960s, contributing vocals and playing the guitar. Matthews left the band in 1969 to pursue a solo career, during which he released several albums showcasing his folk and country-rock influences. One of his most well-known albums is "If You Saw Thro' My Eyes," released in 1971.


Throughout his career, Matthews has collaborated with various musicians and bands, including Southern Comfort, Plainsong, and Matthews Southern Comfort. He has continued to release music and tour over the years, earning a dedicated fan base for his soulful vocals and thoughtful songwriting.
