The Icicle Works is a British alternative rock band formed in Liverpool in 1980. The band was led by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ian McNabb. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1984, included their most well-known song, "Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)", which reached the Top 40 in the UK and the US.

The Icicle Works went on to release several more albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s before disbanding in 1991. Ian McNabb continued to pursue a solo career after the breakup of the band. The Icicle Works are remembered for their melodic and guitar-driven sound, which combined elements of post-punk and new wave. Their music has been praised for its introspective lyrics and catchy hooks, making them a standout band in the alternative rock scene of the 1980s.
