Idris Muhammad, born Leo Morris, was an American jazz drummer who was born on November 13, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his professional career in the 1960s, playing with notable musicians such as Lou Donaldson, Johnny Griffin, and Pharoah Sanders. Muhammad was known for his unique style of drumming that blended elements of jazz, funk, and soul music.


Throughout his career, Idris Muhammad released several solo albums, including "Black Rhythm Revolution!" and "Power of Soul," which showcased his talent as a bandleader and composer. He was highly respected in the jazz community for his impeccable timing, solid grooves, and dynamic playing. Muhammad passed away on July 29, 2014, leaving behind a legacy of influential recordings and collaborations that continue to inspire musicians and fans alike.
