Irene Cara is an American singer, songwriter, and actress born on March 18, 1959, in The Bronx, New York. She gained fame for her role in the 1980 film "Fame," where she portrayed a student at the High School of Performing Arts in New York City. Cara's performance in the film earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.


In addition to her acting career, Irene Cara is also known for her successful music career. She won an Academy Award and a Grammy Award for her hit song "Flashdance... What a Feeling" from the film "Flashdance" in 1983. Cara also had other popular songs, including "Fame" and "Out Here on My Own." She continues to perform and make appearances in the entertainment industry.
