Born on June 9, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, Wilson began his music career as a member of the R&B group, The Dominoes, before launching a successful solo career in the late 1950s. He was often referred to as "Mr. Excitement" due to his dynamic performances and smooth vocal style.
Throughout his career, Wilson had numerous hit songs, including "Reet Petite," "Lonely Teardrops," and "Higher and Higher." He was also known for his impressive dance moves, influencing many future performers. Wilson's music crossed over into various genres, including rhythm and blues, soul, and pop. Despite facing personal struggles and legal issues, Wilson remained a popular and influential artist until his untimely death in 1984 at the age of 49. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
