Jackie Wilson was an American soul and R&B singer who was born on June 9, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan. He was known for his powerful and dynamic voice, as well as his energetic stage presence. Wilson began his music career as a member of the R&B group Billy Ward and His Dominoes before launching a successful solo career in the late 1950s.
Wilson's career peaked in the 1960s with hits like "Lonely Teardrops," "Higher and Higher," and "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher." He was known as a pioneer of the soul genre and was often referred to as "Mr. Excitement" due to his electrifying performances. Wilson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Tragically, he suffered a heart attack on stage in 1975, which left him in a coma until his death in 1984 at the age of 49.
