Wilson was also one of the first artists to successfully blend rhythm and blues with pop music, paving the way for future genres like soul and funk. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and is remembered as a pioneering figure in the music industry. Wilson's career was tragically cut short when he suffered a heart attack on stage in 1975, leaving him in a coma until his death in 1984.
