Born on June 9, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, Wilson first found success as a member of the R&B vocal group, the Dominoes, before launching a solo career in the late 1950s. He became known as "Mr. Excitement" for his electrifying performances and smooth vocal delivery. Wilson's hits include "Reet Petite," "Lonely Teardrops," and "Higher and Higher."
Throughout his career, Wilson had over 50 singles that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
