Jay & The Americans were an American rock band formed in 1961 in New York City. The original members were John "Jay" Traynor, Howard Kane, Kenny Vance, and Sandy Deanne. Their sound was characterized by a mix of pop, doo-wop, and R&B influences. The band quickly found success with their first hit single, "She Cried," in 1962. Their biggest hit came in 1964 with the song "Come a Little Bit Closer," which reached the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In the late 1960s, Jay & The Americans continued to release popular songs, including "Cara Mia" and "This Magic Moment." The band went through various lineup changes over the years but continued to perform and record music. They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2002. Jay & The Americans have left a lasting impact on the music industry with their catchy tunes and smooth harmonies.
