Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965. They were pioneers of the psychedelic rock movement and are considered one of the most important bands of the 1960s counterculture era. The original lineup consisted of Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Spencer Dryden, and Grace Slick, who joined the band in 1966. Their sound combined folk-rock, blues, and jazz influences with surreal lyrics and intricate harmonies.
The band achieved commercial success with their second album, "Surrealistic Pillow" in 1967, which included the hits "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit." Jefferson Airplane was known for their electrifying live performances and their participation in iconic music festivals such as Woodstock and Monterey Pop Festival. They released several critically acclaimed albums throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s before disbanding in 1972.
