Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965. The band was a key player in the psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s and is known for their pioneering sound that combined folk, rock, and psychedelia. The original lineup consisted of Marty Balin, Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, and Spencer Dryden.
The band achieved commercial success with their second album, "Surrealistic Pillow," which included the hit singles "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit." Jefferson Airplane was known for their politically charged lyrics and performances at iconic events such as the Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock. The band went through various lineup changes and ultimately disbanded in 1972, with some members going on to form the spin-off group Jefferson Starship. Jefferson Airplane was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
