Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1965. They were pioneers of the psychedelic rock movement and are considered one of the most iconic bands of the 1960s counterculture era. The original lineup consisted of singer Marty Balin, vocalist Grace Slick, guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, bassist Jack Casady, drummer Spencer Dryden, and guitarist Paul Kantner.
The band achieved commercial success with their second album, "Surrealistic Pillow," released in 1967, which featured hits like "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit." Jefferson Airplane was known for their politically charged lyrics and their performances at iconic music festivals such as Woodstock and Monterey Pop Festival. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and their influence on the psychedelic rock genre continues to be felt in the music industry to this day.
